by Elizabeth Morris, Chairwoman, Christian Alliance for Indian Child Welfare
The Christian Alliance for Indian Child Welfare, founded in Feb 2004, is a national non-profit Christian ministry and family advocacy. CAICW has ministered with music and teaching at churches in the U.S. and Canada as well as a children’s home and street ministry in Mexico.
Educating Congressmen, Governors and State Legislators as to how laws giving tribal leaders increased power have negatively affected families across the United States is part of what we do.
And we do it on a shoe string. That is because no one in our organization takes a salary. We know how to be frugal, don’t mind being frugal, and are doing this because SOMEONE has to stand up and honestly defend the children and families. SOMEONE has to say the emperor has no clothes.
The U.S. Government has set up a system that allows crime and corruption to occur unchecked and without repercussion on many U.S. reservations – using and abusing a people group for the sake of the few at the top of tribal leadership – as well as some in federal service.
CAICW advocates for families at risk of or hurt by the Indian Child Welfare Act. CAICW’s family advocacy is both judicial and educational, as well as a prayer resource for families and a shoulder to cry on.
