Wycliffe Bible translators depend on computer tablets

Android computer tablets are revolutionizing Scripture translation for indigenous tribes in Brazil.

Tablets have come a long way since the days of Moses. And when men from five different tribal groups in Brazil recently received Android computer tablets, along with our translationStudio software, Scripture translation in the local languages took off at breakneck speed.

The high-tech tablets were made possible donations for volunteers and donors in the U.S.  Within a day the men had successfully learned how to use the new tablets.  After that it was full steam ahead. The indigenous translators returned to their villages, tablets in hand, with a goal of translating 50 popular Bible stories. As of this writing, one language group has already translated 21 stories!

This is just the beginning for these language groups. “Once local translators have completed the Bible stories, they can easily make the transition into a full Bible translation program,” says Bruce Smith, president and CEO of Wycliffe Associates.
